Rwanda - Identification mission of a "Support Programme to training infrastructures in the health field at the National University of Rwanda" In December 2005, two of our experts specialised in health infracstructures and equipments, carried out a identification mission of a "Support Programme to training infrastructures in the health field at the National University of Rwanda" on behalf of the Belgian Technical Cooperation and for the Health Ministry of Rwanda.
General context
The National University of Rwanda is the main actor of superior education and practically the only one able to insure the medicine, pharmacy, sciences (included these of engineer) fields
Inside this university, an important lack of premises for the practical laboratories exists. They are essential in the scientific education. This deficit is worsened by a old and partly not operational estate equipments (laboratory's tables, ventilation, extractor fans, security system, …). The situation is the same at the UHC (University Hospital Centre) of Butaré
Additionally, a government programme expects a significant increase of the students in the scientific channels and more particularly of feminine students. This programme aims at increasing the country human resources, essential in the scientific field.
A major effort has already been realised at the National University of Rwanda in Butaré, through the building and the opening of a new building with lessons rooms ; these were previously organised in rooms for laboratories.
The National University of Rwanda has thus the obligation to find exterior resources to insure its motor role in the durable development by associating training to sciences and techniques needed by the country and the gender equality promotion by favouring access to women in the scientific fields.
